This episode is really a catch up with you just to talk through some of the, the, the things that have been going on in my life personally, because this is where you get the tea and also to. Talk to you about the Speak method. The Speak method is the five step formula, which helps you to become a better speaker and to stop shying away from sales. it's been a short while since I recorded a podcast, and that is because the business has been absolutely booming since we did the summit, which was back in March and we had 12 incredible speakers where. Next week's episode, I'm going to do some snippets of some of our amazing speakers that spoke at the summit
But before we get into that, I really wanted to just share with [00:01:00] you. What has been going on in the world of Laura Beto Collins? Because I like to keep this a space where it's raw, it's unfiltered, and a lot of my friends tell me that I don't have a filter and. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I think that's what you guys love about me, is that you actually get to see behind the scenes of what it looks like for a successful business woman that came from nothing and has built a business to the success that I've achieved.
And I'm celebrating that. I'm really celebrating that I, um. I've, it hasn't been an easy year for me. The start of the year personally was very challenging. Myself and my husband went for a very tricky phase where we actually nearly separated, and I'm pleased to tell you all that we have worked through it.
We are currently in therapy and it is going really, really [00:02:00] well. . Me and my husband, , we are back on track and we, I, I believe that men now are truly starting to awaken.
I believe that men, I. Are starting to get it in terms of becoming conscious, and I can really see it in my husband in the last three months that he has has, it's all clicked into place. So even though it was a turbulent time in our marriage, it was some stuff that he needed to look at in his own mental health and some of the things that he does to.
That are coping mechanisms. I'm really, really pleased that through me putting in some boundaries that he has really turned a corner and our marriage is in a really, really great place. And of course, that means that I've been going through and processing a lot whilst running a successful business. So you just don't know.
Like when you see people that are glossy, shiny and they look as though everything is together. The reason that I'm sharing the, what has been going on behind the [00:03:00] scenes for me is really truly to show you that you can run a successful business and. Have shit going on in the background. Like you don't have to just drop down tools and, and give up because there's something going on personally and when you can inject the tools that I teach inside of my programs, not just business strategy, but actually the.
Actually what helps me to stay grounded and keep focused in my business and be consistent, and I know that you probably hear that word consistent phone around so much online, but it's true. You have to have some structure, you have to have some boundaries, you have to have consistency, and then you can, really start to thrive.
Okay, so this episode
is all around.
Turning your applause into [00:04:00] sales. Now, if you already have the courage to step on a stage, then you are in the crazy gang of the, I think it's only about 5% of the world that actually enjoys speaking or wants to speak. And then I've been to lots of events recently. Where people are on the stage, but they look terrified and they really aren't embodied in what they're speaking about.
They haven't done anything to really ground into their message. And then what happens, especially if you are pacing up and down on the stage, or if you are saying lots of erms and uhs and filler words, is it actually takes away your authority. So this is why. The formula that I use, it isn't just about the words that you're saying.
A lot of people, when they start to get into public speaking, they're focusing just on the words. Actually, it's only [00:05:00] 7% of communication. The words you are saying, the rest is your body language. The way that you are standing, it is actually. The tone of your voice. It is so much more than the words you speak.
And then on top of that, if you are speaking because you've got a business, and I'm assuming that you've got a business because you are listening to this podcast, then the next part is actually why are you speaking? If you're not being paid to speak on that stage, I'm assuming that you are looking to sell something and I actually attended event.
Just last week where I listened to a seminar, it was about SEO and the guy that was doing the presentation, uh, I asked him some questions because I was curious and genuinely interested, and he actually said to me, you can book a call with me, but don't worry, I'm not gonna try and sell you something. I said, why would you?
I, I felt like [00:06:00] saying to him, why would you say that? Why would you, why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that? Why would you say, I'm not trying to sell you anything? Because underneath that was a fear. And this is what my work does, is we work on the words that you're saying, how you're gonna say it, and all of the things.
But we also work on the fact that you have a business. If you have a business, then you are making sales. If you are not making sales, it's gonna die very fast and you're gonna be in that sad sta, I can't get my words up, statistic. Of women that have businesses that close within the first year, if you're not making any sales.
Not many female businesses overcome five years and are still standing. I am proud to say that I am actually a statistic that is overcome that and obviously made profit. So I'm very, very, very proud of [00:07:00] that and you should be proud of making sales in your business too. So this episode is gonna really help you with that. What if I told you that every time that you speak, whether it's a workshop, a webinar, or a stage presentation, you are probably leaving thousands of pounds on the table. And that's not because your content isn't valuable, but it's because you are missing five critical elements that separate speaker speakers who inspire from speakers who convert.
So if you are new to the podcast, I am Laura Beto Collins, and I used to be that speaker. I used to have the standing innovations. Amazing. Feedback, people coming up to me , what they'd learned had changed their perception of business, but the sales zero donut [00:08:00] until I discovered the method that I call the speak method.
So in the next 15 minutes, I'm gonna share the exact framework that's helped over 2000 female founders convert at over 25% or higher from the stage. So when I say the stage, that could be your social media, it could be webinars, it could be standing on a physical stage or hosting your own events. So we wanna do this ethically, authentically, and without compromising your mission, because I know that every single listener is a soul led, purpose driven female founder.
Maybe you're male as well. So if you are a male, hi, I like, I, I love, I'm loving all of the men that are reaching out to me currently. So, yeah.
So
why are, are women leaving money on the table? Here are a few [00:09:00] reasons. One, they're taught that selling is icky or pushy, or they've probably 99% of the time when I dig deeper into this is because they've been sold something in a way that felt icky and slimy. Or they went to an event where it was just pitch after pitch, and that's why they don't wanna be that person.
But guess what? You are not because you have a purpose driven business and every time you make a sale, you are making a difference. You are making an impact. You are part of the ripple effect. I know that people that listen to this podcast are not knob beds, so that's why when you sell, it's not icky or slimy.
It, it only feels that way if you are convincing. Yeah, we don't wanna do convincing. Convincing is weird. It's a bit like going on a date and forcing the person to like you. That's [00:10:00] just icky. That's weird. We wanna be so in our truth that actually it's so easy to be lovable. It's so easy to be likable, and it's so easy for people to want to buy from you.
The number two reason why is that they focus on overdelivering and give too much value. It's another thing that I see with a lot of my clients.
Number three, you are treating speaking. And selling as separate activities rather than one, and the transition feels clunky, and maybe you are using slides to give you a bit more confidence. And then when it comes to the actual sales part, you are glossing over it. Or you start speaking really fast because you're like, oh, I wanna get through this bit so it isn't actually landing.
We need to treat them as the same thing. It doesn't need to feel any way. It's you giving information about how people can come into [00:11:00] your world.
What is this actually doing all the time that you are not using a seamless transition to speak about what you offer. What it's costing you is missed revenue.
Maybe you are getting leads, but you are not converting them when it comes to actually the sales part.
And maybe you are a really amazing speaking, you know that you are, but it's not actually. Converting into profit and you see these mediocre speakers and they're actually smashing it.
So this happened to me. So not even that long ago, it was actually when I. It. It was something that happened to me where I was at an event and I actually actually felt as though I was so sick and tired of going to events where it just felt like I was being sold to, and then I really veered away from even pitching anything.
So I was just giving [00:12:00] loads of value and just hoping and praying for the best. I was still getting, I was still getting leads. But because I wasn't actually pitching and showing my value, they wasn't converting. So what changed is. Me realizing that the, there's four parts of ourselves that come online when we are doing something that makes us feel uncomfortable, and one of those is called the protector.
And the protector in me was really loud, and it was actually, that was louder than me knowing how valuable my service was and how it transforms people's businesses and lives. So. I know that I speak about money a lot in my content and I am proud of that and it what the money actually means for the people that come into my world and go through the processes with me, whether it's in the [00:13:00] collective or whether it's in my Soul Speaks Academy, or whether it's one-to-One, or whether it's somebody that comes to my events when they go away and they make.
A shit ton more money. What that means is more choices. It means that they can, for instance, a lot of my clients, it's actually half term as I'm recording this, can take the week off and systemize their offers and they can, they can actually have automations running. So they have freedom because they can pay for Facebook ads, they can hire teams.
Which then creates that ripple effect they can choose to feed their children more nutritional food. It is money equals choices. And that for me is what I really pride myself on is, is helping female founders to make more money, which then equals more [00:14:00] choices.
So I did some analyzing around what separates high converting speakers from inspiring, but broke ones. And this what, this is what really led me to the five part framework that bridges the gap between inspiration and income. So speak the framework broken down is story integration. So as you know, and I'm gonna do a separate podcast all about why storytelling is so super, super important, and it's actually gonna be in my up and coming.
It is actually gonna be in my up and coming.
It's actually in one of my master classes, so if you do want to check that out, it is gonna be in the show notes for this. I'm doing a masterclass all around the speak method and it's gonna break down and see where your gaps are within your, within your process from public speaking to making sales.
P is for your presence and authority. Have you got a platform? Do you actually have a network? Are you, are you [00:15:00] building a community? E is for engagement tactics. So what are you doing when you are speaking? What are some of the tools and the techniques that you can use to really enhance and get people engaged?
Aged
A is for authentic selling, so this is really the transition. It is. Throughout your talk when you are talking, it's getting people to say yes internally. And then K is the knowledge transition. So it's really showcasing your expertise and making that a seamless transition to work with you. So why does the Speak math method actually work?
So it maintains your authentic voice, and I know that you hear. Authentic voice thrown around. But something I really have always pride myself on is remaining auth authentic and being myself because there's nothing worse than if [00:16:00] somebody invest to work with me, and then they get a completely different version of me when they get inside, they're gonna be disappointed.
So. Uh, even though I know I'm, I can be, you know, IF and I blind and all the rest of it, um, I, I, I'm just myself and people seem to like that I'm, I've, I'm still around after nine years, you know, be yourself. Everybody else has taken. It creates natural flow from your content to your offer. So what I do see, and something I really, really, I can really resonate with is when I first started out is I would do a masterclass and it would just be, it wouldn't even really fit with what I was about to what was the next step.
It's making everything flow. It builds trust whilst positioning you as the authority. So again, the, framework that I teach is really to either speak on stages and get paid 5K or above, or to [00:17:00] speak on stages and not get paid, but. Get paid from selling your offer or creating a next step for people to come and work with you and selling it as a premium offer.
So a premium offer, in my world, high ticket is anything from 5,000 pounds up. And when you, when you, if you want to do that, obviously you need to be credible. Like authentically credible actually been in the game for a certain amount of time to have proven results from what you do get featured.
Start thinking outside the box of social media. Get featured in Mag magazines, speaking at events, things like that are gonna really raise that credibility for you as instantly when you stand on the stage, it, it increases your credibility.
Laura Beddoe-1: So we have gone through the five steps of the Speak Me Speak method. Obviously, if you want a deeper dive into [00:18:00] that, there is the webinar that you can go and access right now. A little summary of that is make your talk specific and actionable. Like give them something to take away and to remember you by that actually when they implement it, they're going to remember.
Oh, that's what, that's what Laura Beto Collins told me to do. I'm gonna look her up. She actually made a difference to what I'm doing, but not the whole cake. Okay. This is something that obviously I mentioned earlier. If, if you give them everything, then they are going to implement it themselves and not need you.
And that isn't why you have done all of the hard work, which I know that you have. And that is not why you took your qualifications to give people free stuff on the internet. And the truth is, is that when, when you do something that is free. people Are not gonna value it as much, and it isn't actually [00:19:00] specific to you, which is why in all of my programs, it's not a cookie cutter approach for everybody.
It is bespoke and it is deep diving using my five D method so that. I can get into the unconscious mind and get through the fears and the blocks that are truly stopping you because I could give you all of the strategies in the world, but it, unless you've actually worked on what is blocking you. From propelling forwards, you are not gonna implement them as well.
And if it was that easy, we would all just be Googling stuff off the internet and implementing it. It's actually us that is getting in our own way. Right. So a a few common mistakes to avoid. So focusing on. All of the elements all at once. Rome wasn't built on a day, and the fact that you even wanna get on a stage again, as I said right at the beginning, you [00:20:00] are above the precipice anyway because most people fear public speaking more than death.
So the fact that you even wanna get on the stage, give yourself a pat on the back, give yourself some credit, and. Just, just take one foot in front of the other and hire somebody to support you. Hire somebody to support you that knows what they're doing and has been there, done it, and can help you to avoid all of the side streets that you're gonna go down.
So being in your body. What happens when you step on a stage is that you have adrenaline, your bo, it's not natural, a normal thing to do and stand in front of hundreds of people saying your opinion. It's just not normal. Your body is gonna have a reaction to that unless you are embodied completely in what you are saying and you've practiced it.
All of the best speakers in the [00:21:00] world. Practice, And they have a structure that they know and they follow and they know how to engage the audience. There's so many factors to it. And yeah just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Another mistake that I see people making is they become somebody else on the stage. They're, focusing too much on their tonality and they're not being authentic. So again, that comes from somatic work and embodiment practice to really be in your body to own. Your authentic self on the stage, whether that is on camera, whether that is on a physical stage, people feel your energy.
So, uh, like don't change who you are for the audience.
So I want you to remember your message already inspires [00:22:00] the speak method. Just ensures that it also, the speak method just ensures that it also converts. So you don't need to choose between your mission and your money.
Your speaking has the power to change lives and transform businesses. Don't let another opportunity pass without turning your message into the income that fuels your mission so that you can make more choices. I, I really believe in you. I know that your voice is so important and I can't wait to see you again very, soon.
Until next time, much love.
